The Supervising Scientist Branch (SSB) is part of the Australian Department of the Environment and Energy (DOE&E)’s Heritage Reef and Marine Division. Established to ensure the protection of the Alligator Rivers Region (Northern Territory, AU) from the impacts of uranium mining, the SSB undertakes research and develops standards as well as practices for environmental protection.
With ongoing research and monitoring efforts, the SSB manages and continues to expand one of Australia’s most extensive historical environmental monitoring data sets, dating back over 40 years.
To better manage this ever-growing data set, the SSB decided to implement the cloud-hosted ESdat Environmental Data Management System, which provides the following benefits:
“The ability to efficiently interrogate data from multiple projects allows for improved research outcomes and continued environmental protection of one of Australia’s most pristine landscapes.
The roll-out of the broader ESdat license has been fantastically facilitated by the EScIS team to ensure a smooth transition and successful uptake across multiple teams”
– Amie Leggett, SSB Project Manager
